Be Brave and Unique to Release Untapped Potential
In recent months I’ve found myself becoming increasingly frustrated by global injustices, and I know I’m not the only one. I’ve been wondering how to narrow my focus even more to really find ways to help. I’m leaning towards female founders with untapped potential.
But why? Because I think that many women have built businesses they’re proud of, but they’re aware that they could be doing more. And that describes me as well as many women I meet. As an employee, my work helped to make a difference, but I was always in the background.
Running my own business, I’ve done amazing things for clients which have helped them grow their businesses, but I’ve not talked much about it. Women are especially bad at blowing their own trumpets, which is why I want to support female founders to step out of the shadows.
Using Your USP as a Female Founder
Why is it important to define your difference and your USP and show up online as yourself? Because we are a quarter of the way into the 21st century and women’s rights are being eroded. The overturning of Roe v Wade, the president of the USA, the police murdering women… This is not how we want things to be.
The author James Clear talks about being 1% better than yesterday so you can improve different aspects of your life, learn new skills and develop better habits. It’s about small, incremental steps to bring about change.
But what if we could be 1% braver every day instead? What if we could show up as ourselves and be unapologetic about our talents, accomplishments and personalities? What if we were brave enough to take up space?
Because if we can do it, we inspire others to be brave and do it too. We show the next generation of women, of female founders, that they can do great things. They have us as good examples.
And we can use our voices to speak up for women and other marginalised groups who can’t be as brave as they might like to be. We know that old white men want to hold all the power, and they’ll do anything to suppress anyone who isn’t like them. We have to find the courage to stand up to them.
Being Brave Isn’t the Same for Everyone
What that looks like for you might not like it does for me. It’s not just about activism – it’s about honesty. It’s about being clear about what makes you you and then going out and being yourself.
It IS about stepping out of your comfort zone, though. Be open about your big dreams and ambitions so that others can help you achieve them. Look for ways that you can help others to explore their potential, too.
When you’re clear on what makes you different and why you’re unique, opportunities will start to present themselves. People will ask you to speak on podcasts or stages to explain your particular methodology. You’ll finally have an idea for that book you want to write. Your mission will be so clear that people will rush to get behind it.
The other benefit to defining your USP is that your ideal clients will find you, resonate with your vibe and how you do what you do, and line up to work with you. And you’ll also repel the people who aren’t the right fit.
Last year I decided to be more of my weird self, and I think I did pretty well. This year, I’m going to lean even more into my unique combination of skills and experiences and realise my untapped potential. And I hope you’ll join me.
